DEPARTMENT OF DENTISTRY AT MEDICAL FACULTY OF LVIV STATE MEDICAL INSTITUTE (1913–1958)

Abstract

Purpose of the study. To analyze the history of the establishment and organization of the Department of Dentistry at the Medical Faculty of Lviv University/Lviv State Medical Institute, its scientific achievements, and information about the staff who contributed to the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel and qualified doctors during the wartime and post-war periods. Research Methods. The bibliographic method was used to study library catalogs; sources on the history of medicine, pedagogy; the chronological method, which allows to analyze the features of the formation and development of medical education in different historical periods. Scientific Novelty. The study examines the history of the development of dentistry education and the influence of various historical events on this process. The stages of higher medical education reform are identified, and information about the professional and scientific activities of prominent Ukrainian doctors of this period is clarified. The study highlights the features of the educational process organization and the formation of medical personnel in various medical educational institutions at each stage of state development and educational policy. This allows for a correct assessment of the positive and negative trends in forming an experience for creating modern models for the functioning of Ukraine and national education. Conclusions. Creating scientific and educational centers for training highly qualified specialists promotes progress in the medical field and enhances the level of provided dental care.
