ESTABLISHMENT OF DENTISTRY FACULTY AT LVIV STATE MEDICAL INSTITUTE

Abstract

Purpose of the study. To present the historical aspects of the establishment of the Dentistry Faculty at the Lviv State Medical Institute, the scientific and educational foundation of its formation, and information about the staff who contributed to the creation of the faculty. Research Methods: The bibliographic method was used to study library catalogs; sources on the history of medicine, pedagogy; the chronological method, which allows to analyze the features of the formation and development of medical education in different historical periods. Scientific Novelty. The creation of the Dentistry Faculty, led by Prof. O.V. Koval, was essential to improve educational quality and meet the personnel needs of practical medicine. Thus, the study provides comprehensive information on the evolution of the Dentistry Faculty’s development in Lviv against the historical background of that time. It also highlights the features of the organization of its departments and the provision of the educational process. It is important to identify the names of patriotic dentists who defended the priority of Ukrainian science and developed our scientific heritage. Therefore, the search for historical truth is particularly relevant today as Ukraine integrates into the EU and builds a democratic society. Conclusions. The main determining criteria for the development of medical education can be identified as the gradual expansion of medical educational institutions, the increase in departments, the growth in the number of students and teachers, the broadening of educational content, and the improvement in the level of professional training for medical professionals.
